Lake Nona Medical City

Lake Nona Medical City encompasses 650-acres and is considered a landmark for the Orlando area. The following are the many branches that make Lake Nona Medical City a global destination for health care, research and medical education while at the same time providing job creation for the region.

1. Guidewell Innovation Center

GuideWell Innovation Center is set to open this Spring! This 3-story building which will be LEED certified will be occupied by innovative entrepreneurs and companies. GuideWell is a healthcare solutions provider and will occupy the first floor of the building along with some other entrepreneurial partners.

2. Lake Nona Gateway

Lake Nona Medical Center is an impressive home to the Florida Hospital Health Park and the University of Central Florida’s UCF Health. Lake Nona Gateway promises an array of medical services for years to come.

3. NEMOURS

Nemours is one of the nation’s largest pediatric health systems.  It’s home to a pediatric health care campus, a state-of-the-art children’s hospital, and an outpatient clinic. The location is strategically placed within the Lake Nona Medical City to allow it to collaborate with other influential institutions, facilities, and companies.

4. Sanford Burnham Prebys

This is the second major piece of Lake Nona Medical City which fell into place in August 2006. It is one of the leading scientific research institutions in the nation and was formerly known as Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute. It is a bicoastal operation with another facility in San Diego. The one in Lake Nona opened in May of 2009. Over the next 10 years, the Institute plans on employing over 300 scientists and support staff in Lake Nona.

5. UCF Health Sciences Campus

UCF constructed a College of Medicine in Lake Nona Medical City back in 2006. This new college is expected to create more than 30,000 local jobs and has a 10-year economic impact of 7.6 billion dollars.  The campus includes the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, a medical library and UCF health sciences programs.  UCF Health Sciences Campus is an integral part of the growing of Lake Nona Medical City.

6. UF RESEARCH & ACADEMIC CENTER

The University of Florida is the oldest and largest public university in the State and houses its nationally ranked Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm D.) program in Lake Nona Medical City. It is located next to Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute in Lake Nona to allow the University to have direct collaboration with Sanford Burnham Prebys Institute’s top scientists.

7. Orlando VA Medical Center

There are 1.8 million veterans that call Florida home, so there was a need for a state-of-the-art complex to service these veterans and their families.  Thus came the VA Medical Center in Lake Nona.  It is the first medical center built in the United States since 1995.

The VA Medical Center consists of 65 acres and a 1.2 million square foot facility, costing 600 million to construct. There are 134 inpatient beds, 120 community living center beds, a 60-bed domiciliary, and administrative and support services. The first primary care team began seeing patients at the new facility on February 24, 2015.
